Day 19 – 11/4/2011 Curtin Springs to Kings Canyon.
Today I got to introduce Pete and the kids to a breakfast jaffle cooked on an open fire for breakfast!! Thanks Gran and Pop for lending us your jaffle irons, the kids were very impressed with their cheese and egg sandwiches that the irons made!! At least this morning the kids had learnt from last night’s experience of standing in the fire smoke….they moved each time it came near them. We left Curtin Springs mid-morning and headed to Kings Canyon Resort.
This is the view from our campsite! |
The drive was uneventful and we arrived at Kings Canyon with a rather large dose of cabin fever!!! Thank goodness there was a pool, and other kids!! I think we all needed an afternoon away from each other. The kids had a great time riding around the caravan park on their bikes and just generally playing with other kids their age and Pete and I, well, we just enjoyed sitting. The view from our caravan site is amazing and I am very excited about the ring walk tomorrow.
I took myself off on an afternoon walk, sign posted by little blue arrows around the rim of the canyon behind the caravan park. In true form, my mind soon wandered and I quickly realised that I hadn’t seen a little blue arrow for a while and I was walking over rocks so I couldn’t see other people’s foot prints. It was a little scary as the bush all looked the same, and there appeared to be many path options!! It took me about 5 mins to find the path and for the rest of the walk I paid very careful attention to where I was going!!! It is easy though to see how people can quickly become disorientated in the bush and get lost – even from a marked trail!!!
Boys in their new band |
Kings Canyon Resort also offers night time family entertainment so we headed up after dinner. We have met up with another family that we first met at Yulara so it was nice to have a bit of a social evening with other adults whilst the kids played. The entertainment was fun and we laughed a lot!!! We decided during the night that we would walk the Kings Canyon Ring Walk together. I think we were hoping that each other’s children would be an encouragement!!.
Time to get a personal GPS love! View looks spectacular.
