Day 57 19/05/2011 Darwin – Mindil Beach Markets
Can someone please explain why when children get in a car they immediately either become loud and yell in play at each other OR start fighting?? What is it about the car that causes their behaviour to deteriorate so quickly?? Or is it just my kids?? I can’t believe that after 8 weeks of travelling we are still having to tell the kids every day that the car is not a place to yell, wrestle or play whacking games….how hard can it be to sit and look out the window?? And as I have reminded the kids 1000’s of times every sentence in the car does not have to start with “Mum……” oh and I should mention that today was one of the rare days that the kids actually travelled without their own individual stimulation toys ie DVD, DSi or ipod!! Maybe that was where we went wrong? the only option they had for entertainment was looking out the window or looking at each other. Now that I have that out of my system ….
Mndil Beach at sunset |
Today was one of those days where we had to get things done, we needed to organise the fishing trip, go to the Darwin Tourist Information, decide where we were going and what we were going to do in and around Darwin and we had a few errands to do. Boring I know from the kids perspective but it had to happen, hence why they were in the car with the opportunity to fight and annoy each other and us.
But tonight we got to go to the Mindil Beach markets, wander through and look at all that was on offer, the kids got to pick their dinner from the numerous food stands offering all sorts of food from around the world. Then we gathered with hundreds of others on Mindil Beach to watch the sunset whilst eating our dinner. It was a great ending to a long, hot humid day and I can’t believe that this is the cooler time of the year. We did though splurge and buy more natural mozzie repellent that the lady confidently told us would repel mozzies and sandflys and midgies. Some people say midgies are different to sandfly’s and some say they are the same I have no idea I am just trying everything to avoid getting bitten. I also purchased some hippie pants and loose indian cotton top. I am starting to get nervous about hitting the coast and sandfly’s and midgies!!
Mindil Beach - a great place to eat dinner, there were 100's of people on the beach eating. |
The markets were similar to any other that you can visit really anywhere in Australia, the difference for us at Mindil Beach was the buskers and live entertainment. There were a number of very talented didgeridoo players who we really enjoyed listening to and after dinner we settle back to watch a solo fire artist. The fire artist was very good, I am unsure how you get a passion to juggle sticks that are on fire or to breathe fire but tonight we really enjoyed somebody else being able to do it.
Yay! Hippie pants for Dillon at last!!! Bringing back memories except that I only got to see a couple of stalls(they cancelled the market) as the wet season was still hanging around when I was there EXACTLY a year to the day you are there!
