Day 66 28/05/2011 Kununurra – sightseeing.
It was with great reluctance that I got out of bed this morning, because of the time change, staying up late yarning with friends and a few beers I was a little slow in getting started. Of course because of the time change the sun now comes up at 5:30am amazing so bang our eyes were open!!
Ivanhoe Crossing |
We decided to head off to Lake Argyle a giant man-made lake that services Argyle Diamonds, the lake is 5 times the size of Sydney Harbour. Unfortunately we only had limited access to the lake from the ground and we couldn’t find a place to fish. If one had access to a boat you can travel the entire lake and fish where you choose, we did though find a great picnic area for lunch. We also got the opportunity to see some fresh water crocodiles lying on the side of a run off creek sunning themselves.
After lunch we detoured to the tourist information where we organised our National Park pass for all of WA and then we were off again to Kelly’s Nob Lookout. The lookout gave a great view over Kununurra and surrounding area.
To end the day we travelled out to Ivanhoe Crossing for a spot of barramundi fishing. The crossing is closed due to flooding but we (along with many others) got a line in. I was fortunate to catch a 20cm barramundi, Zac and Callum nil. It was an expensive fishing expedition because we lost a few lures!!
Back to Kununurra for a relaxing night with friends.
