Day 68 30/5/2011 Kununurra – Spring Creek Campground

Happy Anniversary to us, yep happily married for 13 years who would have thought!!!



It may be little but he was a very happy boy,
and we released this baby barramundi!!



Whilst it was our anniversary as they say in showbiz the show must go on and today we were leaving Kununurra, we had had a great time looking around and catching up with Blu and Curly and are very grateful for their hospitality.

We left at lunchtime after completing a few minor repairs on the caravan and an oil change for the car.  We have booked the car into Broome for the much needed new windscreen and today I booked our swim with the Whaleshark spotting trip….I’m so excited about doing this!! We now know that we have to be in Exmouth by the 3/7…..

Since we didn’t leave until late Zac also had the opportunity to throw his hand line in out the front of Blu and Curley’s house – straight into the Ord River, he was delighted to catch his first barramundi, it was about 30cm long and he was one happy happy boy.

Initially we had decided that we would stay at Turkey Creek about 53kms from the turn off to Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungle) but as we drove into Turkey Creek and checked out the roadhouse caravan park we decided to head to the free camp just near the turn off.  On the way we passed Warmun, Warmun is a closed aboriginal community that unfortunately got completely flooded during this year’s  wet season as we drove past there were signs declaring the whole community a natural disaster zone and precluding anyone entry.  It must have been a frightening experience for this small and very isolated community.

The drive the extra few kilometres was gratefully without incident as it was getting dark and there were lots of animals on the side of the road, Pete got the kids and I involved in animal spotting!! Arriving safe and sound we set up for the night excited with the knowledge that we are going to Purnululu NP tomorrow.
