Day 79 10/06/2011 Barn Hill Station
I should have known drinks with the neighbours would only head in one direction!! And today I am suffering for my frivolity and late night…..I should know better but the neighbours were delightful and we had a fun night. The kids thought it was great to because they got to stay up later than normal, eat their chicken whilst watching the movie and they didn’t have to do the wiping up!!
The boys and their jointly caught Giant Trevally |
Thankfully, Pete took the kids down to the beach this morning so that I could continue to recuperate, today was meant to be our last day but I just couldn’t face a drive in the car so we booked in for another night, the children were again very happy as they don’t want to leave here. I slumbered until lunchtime and then rose and joined them at the beach.
Today was another day of fishing, swimming and walking on the beach, albeit a little slowly for me. The neighbours left today to go to Broome so I should be OK tonight!!
We did meet with the neighbours for drinks, a small gathering of about 16 nomads, these gatherings have given us a great opportunity to get information about good free camps, and things to see and do and now because we have been on the road for a few months we are actually able to give information to people going North!! We are on the road to being wise nomads too!!
Right on sunset the boys returned from the beach with the biggest grins, they had been fishing for most of the afternoon, Callum bursting at the seams held up a giant trevally that he had caught and wanted for dinner!! Zac had also caught some whiting and gar fish to use as bait in the morning. Callum and Zac apparently both caught the Giant Trevally, the fish was hooked on Callum’s line but because he had been fiddling with the reel he had loosened off the drag so when he hooked the fish he couldn’t wind it in faster than the fish was going out…..!! So he called Zac over to help, Zac of course tightened the drag and was able to land the fish!! Hence why they both think they “caught it”.
With tired children after a day of fishing, swimming and walking we all crashed early….
Sounds like a fabulous place. Though, thought you would have jumped in and got some underwater shots of the shark!
