Day 101 02/07/2011 Eagle Bluff – Monkey Mia
We had a slow morning, the kids jumped out of bed as soon as the sun was up and took off to build in the sand dunes!! Pete and I were able to enjoy a lovely lie in and then coffee looking out over Shark Bay!!
Monkey Mia |
After savouring our fabulous view for as long as we could we headed off from Eagle Bluff to Monkey Mia. On the way we stopped at Denham and the children had a play in the park. Pete and I wandered down the main street of Denham and stopped to look in a Pearl shop, I should have known better!! Oh well, I am now the proud owner of a gorgeous gold pearl ring!! I just need to get it re sized when we get to Geraldton. Included in the price of the ring was a free pearl farm tour!! Even the kids are excited about going on the trip!!
Denham is a very pretty town, with a beautiful bay, but we had decided that we would stay in Monkey Mia so that we could see the dolphins tomorrow.
On arriving in Monkey Mia we set up camp and were treated to seeing dolphins playing in the bay. Monkey Mia is stunning, it is a beautiful resort set up on a gorgeous bay – Shark Bay. It is very easy to see why this area has World Heritage status. Once we were set up Zac quickly headed off fishing and Pete and I went exploring. We discovered that the information centre had a movie room so Callum and Claudia were able to watch a movie on the behaviours of dolphins’ in Shark bay. It was interesting and informative.
Pre dinner drink view - just before the coastal shower hit. |
We had a lazy afternoon and enjoyed having pre dinner drinks down by the bay, that was until a coastal shower blew through sending us scurrying up the beach back to the van. I contemplated a snorkel but it just wasn’t warm enough and the water was particularly cold when I dipped my toes in. Ironically Pete struck up a conversation with another tourist, our second called Paddy but this Paddy was from Scotland, the other Paddy was from Ireland!!
Whilst Zac fished all afternoon he didn’t catch dinner, but he had a good time catching and releasing undersize fish.
Ha ha - so much for resisting buying a pearl eh Dillon?? Good on you :)
