Day 119 20/07/2011 Exploring Perth
Exploration day, we were off on the trains and buses again today, it was great though Pete managed not to leave the back pack on any train stations. We had decided that we would get a greater understanding of Perth city by riding the free bus route. Given the kids very rarely get to ride buses at home they thought this was a great idea, what became difficult was keeping them sitting quietly gazing appreciatively out of the window!! What they wanted to do was swing from the hand holds and jump from seat to seat!! With this all happening we alighted at Perth Mint.
Wouldn't it have been great if these replica gold nuggets were real?? |
We spent a few enjoyable hours exploring Perth mint, watching commemorative coins be made and looking at gold bullions behind very thick glass. The highlight of the morning was watching a gold bullion be made, I’ve never seen gold melted and poured before and the kids actually sat quietly and watched.
After a picnic lunch on the lawns of the mint we headed back onto the buses checked out the ferries. As we were travelling around on the buses we also watched the afternoon thunderstorm roll in and across the city!! We headed indoors to do some window shopping to avoid getting drenched!!
After an adventurous day traipsing all over the city we headed home to Marie’s.
