Day 1 - it really is real!!

Well we have done it, we have packed the caravan, cleaned up the house, washed the sheets and towels, given care instructions to Poppy and Grandma on how to look after Centucky, disconnected the telephone, cleaned out the fridge and freezer and left home!!

We planned to leave home today at 10am BUT I so underestimated how long it would take to strip and wash the linen from 5 beds including doona's and then clean out the towels from two bathrooms and was all the clothes that we had worn in the past two days. Lucky we had cyclonic winds at home and as fast as I hung sheets out they were dry and I would bring them back in again!!

then just as we were leaving Callum, the child genius says 'I dont know where my sunnies are??"  I say "but they were on your face not two minutes ago!!" He says "oh but there not there now!!"  For those who know callum really well you will appreciate that he is terribly forgetful and loses everything.....for the next 20 minutes we turn the house, shed, gran and pap's house upside down but those sunglasses do not wan

We got away at 11:50am with Poppy looking very happy as he closed the gate behind us - not sure what that was about, maybe he is really looking forward to some peace and quite around the house???

We were making good time out of Cambewarra when we read the sign about the Kangaroo Valley Bridge being closed between 12pm and 1pm to heavy vehicles, confidently thinking that that did not apply to us we ploughed on......how wrong we were. We were lumbered onto the side of the road with the B doubles and told to wait.  So we decided to have lunch under the Bridge at 12.30pm - the kids wanted to know if they could stay at Kangaroo Valley for the night as they were having so much fun playing in the water. We were confident that we may one day make it back to KV that we said "we promise to come here again!!"  Not sure we will be able to say that to much over the next 6 months.

After lunch we headed down the Hume when lesson number 2 hit us between the eyes......we have added a tool box and bike rack to the back of the caravan of peace, love and happiness and OMG at 90kms with big trucks going past the caravan gets up the death wobbles!!  Pete is perplexed but will find a solutuion, I'm sure!!  something technical like" to much weight in the back and needs more weight in the front" he mumbled this a lot to himself over the next 4 hours.

Because we left so late after Goulburn, Camps 6 became my newest best favourite book as we needed to look for a new place to camp for the night as it was obvious we weren't going to make Wagga as originally planned - so Jugiong Showground here we are....it's free, has toilets, a playground for the kids and is flat!! Unreal our first day has been a success!!  Not even a "are we there yet" was muttered from the back seat!!

Tomorrw Wagga and Hay - maybe who knows.....the unrealness (if that is actually a word) of where we are right now is it doesnt matter if we go 50km's of 300km's tomorrow as we have nowhere we have to be!!  It is a unique position that neither Pete and I are actually used to yet!!

Lisa and Hayden, thank you so much for the bottle of red, Pete and I have enjoyed a glass tonight with dinner ... how come food tastes so much better when eaten outside a caravan in the great outdoors!!

Hope you are all well.  Below is our campsite for the night!!
