Day 38 30/04/2011 Ellery Creek Big Pond.

Day 38 30/04/2011 Ellery Creek Big Pond.
We got up this morning with the good intentions of heading back into Alice Springs, but we just couldn’t leave Ellery Creek Big hole.  The kids disappeared soon after breakfast and were found later down in the creek where they had built a fish trap and were having a great time catching the little fish that were in abundance in the creek!!  Pete and I had a leisurely morning reading.
Ellery Creek Big Hole.

At one point Pete got a burst of energy and mended the flat tyres on Zac’s bike and put the new tread on Callum’s - both boys were very happy with his efforts.
It was mid-morning when things got moving; well almost all we did was relocate from the camp area to the Big Hole where the children and I went for a swim.  Pete found a shady tree and just kept on reading!!  The water was a little warmer today, though we swam with our wetsuits on, although a few brave souls did get in in just their swimmers but their exclamations could be heard throughout the gorge!!  The kids made their way up to the back of the gorge and again used rocks and sand to trap unsuspecting fish, we actually had to drag them out of the water for lunch!!
After lunch we settled back into reading and Pete and Callum played chess, luckily Pete won…just. Callum did manage to get his queen before Pete sealed the game with a checkmate. Claudia happily played and Zac was back in the river catching fish!! It was easy to see why we couldn’t leave.
Even though the water was cold the kids headed back in for a late afternoon swim – I declared this to be their shower for the night!!
We had a fabulously relaxing day doing very little!! It has also been good to see how long the battery in the caravan will last running the lights and fridge, day 2 and it is still going strong!!
