Day 39 – 1/5/2011 Ellery Creek Big Hole – Alice Springs

Day 39 – 1/5/2011 Ellery Creek Big Hole – Alice Springs
Today was Claudia’s birthday!! I can’t believe that she is 8 years old, honest it really does only seem like yesterday she was born!!  I know all parents say that!!  Claudia woke us early as she had spotted her presents wrapped in her beach towel, she was very happy with her new princess dolls and other small toys.
Dolomite Walk - Ellery Creek Big Hole

As planned we left Ellery Creek Big Hole but before we headed off I got to do the Dolomite Walk – only 3km’s with another mum I had met!! Secretly I think Pete and the kids were happy I had found someone else to walk with.  The scenery on the walk was spectacular and the rock formations really different.
As we headed into Alice Springs we decided that we would head straight to the hospital and get Callum’s foot reviewed and then onto Coles and Liquorland to stock up on essentials.  The trip to the hospital went really well, his foot is healing better than expected and we do not need any further reviews. This was the best news that we could have received.
Whilst waiting to be seen at the hospital we called Melinda and booked ourselves into her front lawn for the night and she came to the hospital to pick up Claudia and took her back to her house to surprise Jocelyn, who had no idea that we were coming.
We then headed to Coles to buy essentials for the next few days and birthday food for tonight.  Then off to Liquorland for beer supplies…..aarrgghh Liquorland isn’t open on Sunday’s!! – Seriously only in Alice Springs and Liquorland doesn’t open until 2pm every weekday.  This slightly changed our plans for tomorrow.  We had also hoped to get haircuts today but again all the hairdresser’s were closed so that was put off until tomorrow as well.  It’s funny how used to 7 day a week trading we are!!!

Awesome birthday cake!!

We had a great night, Claudia had a lovely birthday dinner and enjoyed being with her friend.  During dinner we learnt from Melinda that tomorrow was a public holiday in the NT and we wouldn’t be able to get haircuts and it would be unlikely that Liquorland would be open!!  I’m beginning to believe there is a conspiracy to keep us in Alice Springs, we decided that tomorrow would be a rest and washing day and Tuesday would be haircut and beer day!!
