Day 42 04/05/2011 Gemtree

Day 42 04/05/2011 Gemtree
It was with great excitement that we got up this morning all ready to go garnet fossicking….we were sure that we were going to find heaps of stones and make heaps of money!!  On the drive out the brochure said that garnets are normally sized between a dried pea and a full pea !! that didn’t sound very big how were we ever going to trip over one of those.  Luckily we had a guide who not only gave us the right equipment he also showed us how to fossick! It was dusty and tiring buit we managed to stick at it for two hours and we found what we thought looked like fabulous garnets!!
We headed back to the caravan park for lunch and to get our stones measured, and I can say that we did OK we had one 4 and 6 3.5’s all which can be cut and are big enough to be made into jewellery either rings or earrings!!

Off to get firewood for the fire and then we went on the nature walk around the caravan park!!  This was a sign posted walk highlighting local trees and shrubs, Pete and I walked and the kids went on their bikes.  It was nice to go for a stroll that didn’t involve scaling mountains!!  The kids though declared it “boring!!”  Can’t win with them.
We have had a really good day today, during the walk I asked Pete how are we ever going to go back to work??  He mumbled something about mortgage repayments!!  After 6 weeks off work and home seems so far away……..
