Day 73 04/06/2011 Nillibubbica Rest Area – Broome.
It was with great excitement that Zac woke us at 6am encouraging us all to get up because we needed to get to Broome!! I’m not sure what he thought was going to be there but he was excited and wanted to be on the road. We arrived in Broome at 8:30am we couldn’t even book into the caravan park yet!! So we did what all good travellers do we hit the shops!! First off was Coles for a fridge restock and then onto Target for new thongs for Pete.
Cable Beach |
Pete also reluctantly bought me another camera, this time he went for one that I’m sure he thinks is almost indestructible!! It is waterproof, shock proof and crush proof to 100kgs!! I have faithfully promised to take the best care of it I can. I’m just excited because I will be able to take it with us when we swim with the whale sharks and snorkelling on Ningaloo Reef!! The de Rooy stimulus package had rolled into Broome.
All the shopping though gave us the opportunity to have a look around the township of Broome, it’s a pretty town that is geared up just for the tourists, lots of trinket shops and places where you can spend heaps of money!! Pete is determined to keep me away from anything that even closely resembles a pearl shop.
Cable Beach |
Once we had unpacked, booked in and settled into the caravan park we headed off to Cable Beach. We were not disappointed, the beach is stunning, the water was cool but refreshing and we quickly jumped in.
After swimming for a few hours and trying really hard to catch the less than 1/2m swell we headed up the beach to check out the camel’s that were waiting patiently on the sand for tourists to come and ride them. It must be a lucrative business because there were about 40 camels in total. The stimulus package did not extend to a camel ride, the kids had to be happy with being able to pat the camels!!
