Day 91 22/06/2011 Coral Bay

Day 91 22/06/2011 Coral Bay
Because of yesterday’s complete inactivity, the snorkelling isn’t counted as activity as we just walk a little way up the beach and catch the current back, not exercise at all.  I decided that I needed to go for a walk today so that I could at least say I did something!!  Both Pete and I are feeling very lazy at the moment and we have really enjoyed being “parked” at Coral Bay for a few days.    So this morning I headed off to the boat ramp to check out the Bay from a slightly different view.  The walk was uneventful and I was careful to stick to the bitumen because I didn’t want to get lost walking over the sand dunes.
At lunch time I drove back to the boat ramp with Zac and the trusty cast net and we had a great time catching some bait fish, Zac planned to use the bait for fishing later today.
After lunch we dragged Claudia and Callum away from their friends and the park and headed down to the bay for a snorkel!!  I remembered the camera again today but have to confess it is very difficult photographing fish when snorkelling, first I can’t hold my breath for very long, second the fish move really quickly and third my spring suit is constantly trying to drag me back to the surface.  All of these barriers meant lots of photos taken but not many good ones.  Again today the visibility was only about 3 – 5m’s. I did though manage to get a couple of shots of the coral to remind us of the different colours that were there if we just looked.  Callum also found a toad fish (maybe a non-spiky puffer fish) that was willing to pose for a photo whilst it was sitting in the sand!!
We returned to the caravan when it became just too cold to remain on the beach, Zac returned not long after us … he didn’t have dinner, but he had fun and talked to lots of people.
After being a little more active today I’m sure we will sleep well tonight, the kids are all as brown as gumnuts and look like they have spent a month on the beach.  Tomorrow we are off to Exmouth and then Cape Range National Park. We will be without a mobile connection for a week!! During this week we will be swimming with the whale sharks – hopefully if they are still hanging around!!
The other bonus to being at Coral Bay has been the opportunity to once again catch up with the grey nomads that we met at Tunnel Creek, Ken and Shirley – the ones that helped us with their dolphin torches!! It is amazing really the longer we travel the more we meet up with familiar faces who are also heading south!!  The world really is a small place!!
