Day 107 08/07/2011 Coronation Beach (exploring Geraldton)

Day 107 08/07/2011 Coronation Beach (exploring Geraldton)
Exploration of Geraldton, that was the plan for today.  We headed into town and as per our normal plan the first stop was the Tourist Information Centre where we collected heaps of information about what was on over the weekend and more importantly what was free of charge!!

The view from our caravan site!!

We decided that today we would head to the foreshore precinct for a picnic lunch of hot chips with chicken salt and fresh bread – yum chippie sandwiches!!  The foreshore precinct was picturesque and demonstrated how a commercial shipping harbour could be made into a beautiful “people area” with just a small amount of thought and planning.  The kids had a great time playing in the park and Pete and I enjoyed lying in the sun.  We were able to get out of the wind for a few hours and the sun was really warm.
After the kids had exhausted themselves in the park we headed off to get groceries and other essential items.
As the sunsets on another fabulous day!!
During my rest in the park I had decided that I needed to find a hobby for the remainder of the trip, I have read heaps of books, surfed the internet when we have had connection and walked the legs off the children when there have been good bush walks available.  We have swum and snorkelled and when possible surfed but as we are heading into cold weather I am a little at a loss with what to do.  The kids and I have baked cupcakes, cakes, biscuits, self-saucing puddings and muffins and I have cleaned the caravan from top to bottom.  I had really run out of ideas on how to entertain myself!! So much to Pete’s surprise I headed to Spotlight and purchased my very first ever “Long stitch”.  As all my friends know I’m not in the least bit crafty but I thought how hard can this be??  I picked a rather large one with sea gulls on it!!  Pete mumbled something about me needing to go back to work, but I ignored him.  No not a word to my boss that I now needed something else to fill my day!!
Back at the van I settled in to teach myself long stitch!! All I can report is that I am on track and I have finished one very small section, I may need to extend my leave just to complete this project!!
We are really enjoying Coronation Beach, Zac had been able to fish and whilst not catching anything he is happy. The other two have entertained themselves with games. Ironically late this afternoon another van pulled in the campsite beside us and it was a couple who have camped next to us at Karajini National Park! Once again I am reminded how small the world really is and how we keep meeting up with the same grey nomads along the way!!
Another fabulous winters day!!
