Day 112 13/07/2011 Sandy Cape Recreation Park
Another lazy day today, we woke to what developed into a gorgeous warm day. If I tried to make out we did anything more substantial than reading books and long stitch I would be lying.
the well trod sand dune!! |
I did after lunch climb up a sand dune where I found out I could get mobile reception and posted my blogs for the past few days but that really was all I managed to achieve.
Callum and Claudia spent most of the day playing with their friends, Lily, Phoebe and Paris. They ran up and down the sand dunes completely exhausting themselves playing cowboys and Indians!
Zac headed out before lunch to go fishing, initially on his own and then with Emma and Howard (adult neighbours). Whilst the adults came home for lunch Zac demonstrated his commitment to fishing and skipped lunch. Late in the afternoon I headed out to look for him, figuring that it was time for him to come home for some food. I found him fishing from the cliffs straight into a little sink hole.

Unfortunately whilst Emma and Howard had caught a number of Skip Jacks, Zac had been unsuccessful. I asked Zac if I could have a go and Emma showed me where to cast and in sailed my baited hook. Unbelievably after about 5 minutes I had caught a Skip Jack – big enough to keep and eat for dinner. Between Emma, Howard and me we had enough fish (all Skip Jacks) for dinner for both families. Having never eaten Skip Jack’s before I whipped up some beer batter, this was actually the first time I had made beer batter.
Just as we were getting dinner ready there was a loud scream – Claudia had been playing with other kids on the tyre swing, when unfortunately the rope broke and the rope swing crashed to the ground with her face planting. After the application of a cold pack and some big mummy hugs she was able to go back and play. I don’t think there will be any long term facial disfigurement.
The Skip Jack was yummy and the beer batter was a great success and simple to make!!
I’m not sure how come I get so tired each night, particularly after doing so little!! Maybe long stitch is more energetic than I realised?? Still long stitch all day beats working !!
