Day 114 15/07/2011 Sandy Cape – Perth (Leeming)

Day 114 15/07/2011 Sandy Cape – Perth (Leeming)
Well Pete got his way, when I woke up this morning it was threatening to rain, there were dark
We called this the Elephant Pinnacles!

grey clouds everywhere and it was cold.  Not a nice day to hang at a pretty seaside campground.  I had a bee in my bonnet about how dirty the car was so I grabbed a bucket and gave the car a quick bucket bath!! Well it didn’t take long for the heavens to open up and for big rain drops to land on my head and the car.  Of course I got blamed for making it rain because I was washing the car.  I felt very sorry for Emma and Howard as they had to pack up a camper trailer!! We had really enjoyed camping with Emma and Howard over the past few days so much so that they had invited us to lunch on Sunday at their house in Perth.
We packed up and with the puddles building around us we left and started the pilgrimage to Perth.  On the way we stopped at the Pinnacles, luckily the rain stopped long enough for us to get out of the car and have a stroll around the Pinnacles.  The Pinnacles are limestone pillars that rise mysteriously from the sand dunes.

hehehe we didnt name this one!!

The Pinnacles are an eerie contrast to the rest of the landscape consisting of sand dunes as far as the eye can see. Visiting the Pinnacles was one of those tick a box things that we just had to do but to be honest we were all a little underwhelmed, maybe we are beginning to get “sightseeitis” before we left friends had warned us about “sightseeitis”, it is a disease that you can get when you have been travelling for a while and you just get tired.  The kids were very flippant about the Pinnacles, with Zac exclaiming “Mum, rocks and sand I don’t see what is so special about this place”.  The saving spot for us all was the discovery centre that explained the history of the Pinnacles and also the flora and fauna that lived in this area. We left the Pinnacles and got back onto the road to Perth.
We arrived in Perth late afternoon and headed to my cousin Marie’s for a few days.  We have been lucky because Marie has enough room on her driveway for us to park the caravan for a few days.  Once we settled everyone in, we enjoyed a few hours and a few glasses of wine catching up with Marie before hitting bed for the night!!
