Day 74 05/06/2011 Broome sightseeing.

Cable Beach - sunset

We decided that today we would try to limit how much time we spent in the car as we felt that a day off from driving would be a nice change.  In trying to stick to this decision we headed off to the lighthouse to check out the dinosaur foot prints and Anastasia’s pool.  This was only a few kilometres away from where we were camped.
The real dinosaur footprints can only be seen at particularly low tides unfortunately we could not walk out to them today but we were able to see the copies that were strategically placed well above the high tide mark.  We also gazed in wonderment at Anastasia’s pool, this is a man made almost perfectly round pool that was dug out of the rock by a lighthouse keeper in the late 1930’s for his wife Anastasia.  According to the information board she suffered from arthritis so her husband dug out the pool in the sandstone rock for her to swim in!! My now that’s an act of kindness, Pete called it something else but I won’t repeat it here.

Zac waiting for the "big one"

I then decided that I would take the scenic route back to the caravan park and walk the 5kms back on Cable Beach, Pete drove the kids back and they grabbed their bikes and rode up the beach to meet me.  It was a lovely way to start the day.
Then we did what everyone around us was doing and headed off to Cable Beach for a swim before lunch.  The tide was high so there was very little sand to sit on but the water was a very pleasant 23 degrees and it was a gorgeous day.  Hard to believe really that if we were home we would be in the throes of winter.
Cable Beach - nearly sunset!!
Pete and I are really enjoying the weather in Broome – not to hot, humid or cold.  Therefore I have been pondering exactly what it is I could do if we relocated to this beautiful place so I looked around whilst sitting on the beach and decided that I could be a life guard on Broome Beach, seriously this must be the easiest beach to be a life guard at as there is absolutely no surf!! And from my short but intense observations they seem to just sit in the shade, nothing at all like the job the lifeguards do on “Bondi Rescue”!! Now I just need my Bronze Medallion and to get my application in…..oh and I guess I need to see if my boss will give me a little more time off work!!
After lunch the kids headed to the pool and we reclined on sun lounges, this life really is exhausting.

Me - trying to catch something!!
Couldnt give the bait away!

Given, we were being real Broome tourists today we did the only thing left to do…fishing on the beach at sunset!! The sunset was beautiful, the continual colour changes were astounding and reflected breathe takingly off the water.  It is understandable then that the beach was packed with cars and people, all of us enjoying the view.  And yes the kids and I even got Pete to drive onto the beach.
Zac caught one fish, a small baby one, but he was happy.  I got a couple of bites but didn’t hook anything.  We had a great time trying though.  Callum and Claudia fished for about 5 minutes and then spent the rest of the time looking for shells and finding sea snails!! We traipsed back to the caravan looking forward to dinner and bed.

  1. Great shot of Zac. I hope that the new camera is simple & does not require any o-ring greasing etc. I sincerely hope you do not manage to flood it!!
